Requirements
As the Global Discipline Lead for Design, your mastery of all design and communications sub-disciplines, creative operations and strong leadership skills will enable Creative Solutions to deliver highly efficient and powerful design-related content for Shell.
You must be able to demonstrate the following:
Extensive experience in a strategic, leadership position with deep expertise in integrated communications, digital innovation and design excellence --- in-house at a large international company and/or in an agency
Demonstrated ability to drive brand impact through strategic storytelling, cross-channel campaigns, and high-performing creative teams
Strong track record of delivering business growth and elevating creative standards across diverse markets
Mastery in visual storytelling, design, and digital-first creative solutions, with a proven ability to blend design craft and emerging technologies to create innovative brand campaigns and experiences
Commercially savvy and data driven leader; demonstrated strength in managing commercial performance and delivering measurable results
Experience of delivering to complex Health & Safety, Data Privacy, Ethics & Compliance requirements
A change agent with a passion for people who can inspire and maximize the key strengths of individuals to harness their collective brilliance

As the Global Discipline Lead (GDL) for Design, you’ll be at the helm of a discipline that’s pivotal to the success of Shell’s business, brand and reputation - guiding a culture where creativity counts. You will be empowered to push boundaries and challenge conventions in an ever-evolving landscape, on a hugely diverse range of projects – from digital, design centric scope to strategically critical corporate communications. Your creative stewardship will inspire business partners and the team alike, elevate briefs and drive powerful integration across Shell’s creative ecosystem.

Shell’s in-house enterprise, Creative Solutions, is an integral part of the Strategic Communications and Brand Team, serving as the stewards of Shell’s iconic and globally recognized brand. Creative Solutions is Shell’s go-to team for integrated content creation, design, film and experiential. CS delivers work through a combination of in-house experienced project managers, with deep subject matter expertise and a roster of curated agency partners. Our in-house offer includes:
Global Design Hub (GDH), the Design discipline which specializes in a broad range of scope such as integrated communications campaigns, digital & social media, event-specific design, brand and visual identities, spatial design, policies and standards creation, translations and effective presentations, amongst others.
Content Engine (CE), an in-house film team, making internationally award-winning content, webcasts and studio broadcasts for all Shell’s businesses and functions.
Experiential specialists that manage end-to-end events and exhibitions – from multi-million-dollar reward & recognition experiences & global student innovation programmes to exhibitions and more.
You’ll be at the forefront of shaping integrated, high-impact campaigns by working closely with the Film & Photography Lead and the Experiential Lead ---ensuring strategic design and communications are seamlessly woven into every touchpoint of our creative solutions. Together, you’ll bring to life brilliant, cohesive brand experiences that resonate deeply and deliver measurable results.
This role reports directly to the Head of Creative Solutions and is a key member of the Creative Solutions Leadership Team.
This position is being actively recruited across two locations, with candidate sourcing efforts occurring simultaneously in both the United Kingdom and Philippines.
What You’ll Be Doing
As the GDL for Design, you will spearhead the discipline’s creative excellence, elevate creative ambitions across all scopes and maximise its operational effectiveness and value delivery as a group. You will be at the forefront of shaping bold, long-term strategies and breakthrough innovations that define the growth of the discipline.
Your role will include:
Strategic leadership and vision, reinforcing value delivery
Championing the discipline’s strategic ambitions and creative stewardship
Driving the long-term strategy for the design discipline & building its global reputation
Leading credibility & reputation building initiatives to reinforce the value of Creative Solutions
Creative impact enabling growth
Raising the bar for creative ambition of design projects to deliver on business & reputational objectives
Using data and external trends to refresh our approach to delivering innovative, engaging and cost-effective campaigns which differentiates the Shell brand
Strengthening agency partnerships, optimizing delivery and initiating fresh ideas to reimagine how we collaborate and innovate with partner agencies
Managing the roster of design agencies, upholding standards & building innovations to unlock quality and value
Proactively identifying growth opportunities and enabling project acquisition internally
Excellence in delivery driving consistent customer satisfaction
Driving customer satisfaction and commercial performance
Ensuring the consistently excellent delivery of projects across all KPIs including project management, creative & commercial excellence, brand & functional standards compliance, and overall value delivery
Driving design excellence and spearheading the delivery of key strategic design, integrated campaigns and communications, both on the regional and global level
Being the Design SME whom project managers across all disciplines can consult
Leading growth and development-centric initiatives for a global team of project managers
Integrating across disciplines to deliver operational efficiencies and seamless customer experience
You’ll lead and inspire a global community of passionate design and communication specialists, directly managing a Senior Discipline Specialist and a Design Integration Advisor, while coaching and mentoring the broader team.
