MacEwan University is seeking energetic and enthusiastic students to fill casual League Referee opportunities for indoor soccer and dodgeball leagues with the Sport and Wellness department. Recreation offers 8 and 9-week leagues during both Fall and Winter terms. Fall leagues take place from late September to early December, while Winter leagues run from late January to early April with statutory holidays and academic breaks off. Evening leagues run Monday through Thursday, and lunch leagues run Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

Requirements

You will have:

Interest and general knowledge of sport and recreation including rules, format, rosters, and equipment set up;
Customer service skills;
The ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently; and
Strong attention to detail.
Qualifications
Sport participation experience would be considered an asset.
Experience in recreation and event management would be considered an asset.
Standard First Aid certification would be considered an asset.
Position Requirements
The ability to work 3 to 10 hours per week during league season(s).
The ability to lift and push equipment in excess of 50lbs (22kg) during set-up and take-down tasks.

Responsibilities

Demonstrating appropriate player management skills through effective communication while creating a fun and inclusive environment;
Ensuring that games are played in a manner which is safe for participants of all skill levels and abilities;
Setting up and taking down league supplies and equipment;
Handling participant conflicts in a calm and professional manner;
Calling fouls and/or infractions as seen and carry out penalties as needed;
Issuing red and yellow cards as needed;
Managing substitutions checking into the game;
Assigning pinnie colours to the teams;
Ensuring that league games start and end on time;
Assessing spirit ratings, in discussion and collaboration with League Staff;
Adhere to Recreation’s policies and procedures as well as sport and league rules;
Completing timesheets daily;
Attending Recreation training; and
Advertising and promoting Recreation events to their peers.
