Senior Technology Architect
TELUS is seeking an experienced Senior Technology Architect to join its Health Data Office team within TELUS Health. This team’s mission is to responsibly leverage health data for innovation through AI, data enablement, and interoperability. In this role, you will design, govern, and optimize large-scale cloud-based healthcare data systems and pipelines. Working alongside data engineers, cloud experts, and AI/ML professionals, you’ll lead architectural decisions for complex data environments involving Apache Spark, Flink, Kafka, and Google Cloud Platform. You will shape data governance frameworks, ensure compliance with healthcare standards like FHIR4, and drive high-impact projects that enable better health outcomes across Canada. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data architecture, streaming technologies, and healthcare data processing, combined with leadership experience in large-scale, cloud-native data environments. Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
2. 10+ years of experience in data management or architecture.
3. Expertise with PySpark, Kafka, Flink, and cloud-based data pipelines.
4. Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, schema design, and data warehousing.
5. Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform or AWS data services.
6. Deep understanding of data governance, quality, and security principles.
7. Hands-on experience with microservices, Docker, and Kubernetes.
8. Strong communication and leadership skills.
Great-to-Haves:
9. Master’s or PhD in a related field.
10. Healthcare AI/ML or FHIR experience.
11. Cloud or data architecture certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional, AWS).
12. Project management or healthcare informatics certifications.

Responsibilities
1. Design and govern enterprise data architecture for healthcare data pipelines.
2. Lead architecture decisions for large-scale Apache Flink and PySpark streaming platforms.
3. Establish and enforce FHIR R4 data governance and interoperability standards.
4. Optimize and modernize data lake architectures in AWS and GCP.
5. Architect and implement cloud-native microservices with Docker and Kubernetes.
6. Drive observability using tools like Datadog, Dynatrace, and Cloud Monitoring.
7. Mentor and guide engineering teams on best practices in data engineering.
8. Collaborate with clinical and technical teams to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
9. Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance TELUS’ healthcare data capabilities.
